Our shared legend of kindness?
What "The Alchemist" has taught me about choosing my tribe...

Have you read one of the biggest bestsellers of all time: The Alchemist by Paolo Coelho?
I did, many years ago. And this week did it again… And I remembered once — sitting among the rocks next to the Mediterrenean sea, in Tarragona, in Spain, where I used to live — noticing a really cool guy reading it. Living it. Proudly.
And something in me lit up.
We are the same tribe.
That's all it took. A book. A coastline. A silent recognition between two strangers.
⸻
I've been thinking about that moment lately.
About what it means to belong to a tribe — not by birth, not by geography, not by following the same account — but by choosing aligned values.
At Hawimi, I wear two hearts. A circle. A map. They represent kindness — not as softness, not as niceness, but as something more complete: caring for yourself and for the other. Both. At the same time. With mutual consent.
Not choosing you or me. You and me.
And when I meet someone living by this value — even just in a circle or a single moment — something happens. A recognition. A belonging. Like that cool guy on the rocks.
We are co-leading a time. A planet. A movement.
Maybe even a ray of hope.
Because, honestly?
The wars outside are a mirror of something inside.
The judgment and unkindness we pour on others — we learned to do it on ourselves first. The forcing, the controlling, the subtle violence of I know better — it starts at home. In our relationships. In the voice we use with ourselves at when no one is looking.
Maybe kindness is as simple, and radical, as ending the judging. The right and wrong. The better and worse.
This feels to me easier to say than to do.
I've been trying for 27 years — since I was 16, and drugs and unkind tribe made my life look pretty dark…
And a different path started to call me.
And what I've found — slowly, imperfectly, with many detours — is this:
Pause. And ask: what is the most caring thing I can do right now — for myself, and for the other?
Not performance. Not people-pleasing. Real caring. With my own consent first.
And if I’m not sure I have the other person's permission — I ask.
I've explored asking even this: "Are you open for a compliment?"
The effect is remarkable. Even before the aknowledgement arrives, there's this joyful anticipation — because they know something beautiful is coming. They've been asked instead of assuming. They've already been seen.
That's one form of kindness, as a practice.
Not a feeling. A choice. Again and again. With passion, and compassion.
Like the Alchemist might say — maybe this aim to inspire 9+ Billion humans embrace kindness as the answer to every experience is our personal legend. Maybe every time we choose kindness, we are living it.

Every time you choose it, you are my hero. For real.
Thank you for inspiring me.
